1950s: Establishing the Cause
November 20, 1953: The first annual meeting. Mayor Quigg Newton opened the meeting by calling attention to the inadequate facilities at the state institutions in Ridge and Grand Junction. He stressed the need for action and the institution of a campaign to obtain adequate facilities and administrative reform.
The panel discussion’s theme, “Community Organization for Mental Health,” began with the panelists’ description of the programs for the mental health clinics in Boulder, Colorado Springs, and Greeley. They discussed the ways in which citizen participation is being enlisted to promote a better understanding of their community. Finally, 170 people attended the luncheon meeting led by Mr. George Kirk, first Vice President of the Association. We continue this tradition of organizing communities to make an impact.
